January Manufacturing Update: Still on Track for Q1

We’re smack dab in the middle of our mass manufacturing run and are still on track for a Q1 delivery. Here’s everything that’s notable since the last update:

First and foremost, we’re working on optimizing our manufacturing process. This is something that happens (or at least should happen) with any mass manufacturing line, but may not be an aspect you’ve had detailed before.

It starts with documenting literally everything. We have one person who’s full time job is currently just to document every detail about every process, every mistake, and every defect. These reports make sure that we can guarantee quality. They also help us to catch any possible issues quickly, which is important when you’re running molds 24/7!

Speaking of running molds, there was a minor issue with the reservoir mold. During long periods of continuous 24 hour running, the locating pins (red arrow in picture) would get stuck in the mold and break off from the part. The fix was implemented quickly, as you can see in pictures below.

Broken Reservoir Locating Pins

We’ve added small reinforcements to the locating pins. You can see one of the new reservoirs below:

Reinforced locating pins

To be clear, this change will have no impact on the durability of reservoirs for end users. It’s strictly to allow us to keep running the machines without breaking more reservoirs.

Since the fix was implemented we’ve been again running the machines continuously without issue. Unfortunately, this delay coupled with the “Flu” in some of our partner’s factories means rather than getting our parts on the boats before Chinese New Year, they’ll be completed but unable to ship until after the holiday.

Since the reservoir is the last part to go in the box, we’ll still be moving forward with what manufacturing and assembly we can do here in North America before the end of Q1. It’s been a long time coming but we’re seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and can’t wait for you to be flossing with Instafloss.

Proud of the progress you all have made! I ordered back in July, 2021… it’s been quite the journey! Definitely been interesting watching this product go from basically infancy to first shipments. Good job, you all!

I thought production was in Mexico? Or are some parts then being made in China and sent to Mexico to be assembled?

Instafloss replied:
Hello Seneca,

That’s correct – production is in Mexico, but some parts are being shipped to our manufacturers from China for assembly.
